One year ago, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, eroding the legal right to abortion guaranteed for nearly half a century. The Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling declared that there is no constitutional right to abortion. 

This decision has had devastating consequences, particularly for marginalized communities.

The fall of Roe has amplified the challenges faced by marginalized individuals who have been living in a post-Roe reality for years. It has emboldened anti-abortion activists to restrict access to abortion further, disproportionately affecting Black women and femmes, LGBTQ+ individuals, and other marginalized groups.

At Women Engaged, we envision a more just future where reproductive autonomy is accessible to all, irrespective of means. To realize this vision, WE is working within a coalition to pass the Reproductive Freedom Act in Georgia. This vital legislation aims to remove unnecessary abortion laws and expand access to abortion by allowing additional healthcare providers to perform the procedure. WE also advocates for laws that enhance healthcare access for pregnant individuals and new parents and strengthen the social safety net.

Today, the GA senate voted in favor of #SB456 and we are now looking to have the GA House support this as well. While the Women’s Health Protection Act didn’t pass in the senate yesterday we are hopeful that Georgia will make the right decision.These decisions deprive low income women , disabled women and Black women, femmes and girls of access to abortion and critical reproductive medical care. The fight for Women’s rights has always been on the table and we will not back down! Women Engaged is asking for all individuals to contact their Representatives and demand they stand for #ReproHealth. We must vote NO on this bill to protect the lives of Women’s Health. The fight is not over, it's just beginning!”

ATLANTA, GA - The week of December 6th, Women Engaged (WE) will celebrate its seven-year anniversary with a week-long virtual and in-person experience for donors, members, activists, partners, and community members.
